High Tide and a Fun Walk

The other day we were driving home from an errand and had to stop for a local walk after seeing how high the water was during the high tide.  It was a really HIGH tide.  ;)

The children on the path to the island walk.  Notice how the water is almost on the path on both sides.  During low tide, there is dry land on each side of the walk.

The water is so beautifully clear.

Throwing rocks into water is always a necessity when one is so near to it.

Hanny for once actually WANTED to hold my hand!

Getting ready to cross the "Wiggly Bridge" to the island.

Will informing the children of the different paths they could take, then directing them to the one we will take now.  ;)

Jadon telling me a story about something he thinks is in the trees.  He's always very earnest and expressive in his story telling. :)

My pretty girl.

The children took the high path, while I took the low, which they thought was pretty cool.

Will pretending to be a tree to try to be camouflage so I couldn't see him.

Pinterest WIN!

So I'm not super crafty, but I like to collect Pinterest ideas like any other mom, especially when it comes to homeschooling.  The queue of ideas is quite long, but recently I found one that I had to use right away and it was a success!  So, I thought I'd share.

Will loves Lego's and this uses Lego's to help with spelling and writing.  The child uses the Lego's to help show the positioning of the letters on the lines before writing the word themselves.  Will really liked it.

First Will chose a word from random to "build" and write.

Then he started "building" the words with the Lego's.

He successfully "built" the word.

Writing a word after building.

I love this activity for practicing spelling and writing.  I just printed the papers and laminated them with construction paper as the backing to make them firm (and colorful). Here's the link:Lego Handwriting Mats.

Beautiful Walk on a Beautiful Day

This past Saturday was an incredibly beautiful, clear day.  Jadon had a soccer game and following the game we were able to take a little walk along an inlet area during high tide, enjoying the absolutely gorgeous area in which we live.

Jadon in his team shirt.

The kickoff.  ;)

I moved our location while we were watching and Hannah insisted on carrying her own chair.  She's like an ant.  ;)

The beginning of our walk, under an overpass.

Jadon and Hanny checking out the ducks.

These children could throw rocks in the water for hours on end.

Now Daddy joins in the rock throwing fun.  :)

Will venturing down some stone steps on the side of the path that lead down to the water.

Daddy and the boys (in the shadow).

Will is pretty much too big for Daddy to do this anymore (notice the lack of height).  :)

Hanny, however, still has a few years before she reaches the "too heavy" status.  ;)

Jadon enjoying his snack at the break time.

Hanny enjoying putting grass in the empty snack container.

Here we go back to the van.  Lovely walk on a lovely day.

Camping

We took a camping trip to one of our favorite spots here in Maine.
 Daddy and Will finishing setup.

Chillin' at the lodge.  :)

Enjoying the little park.

There's a long bridge over a swampy area on the walk to the lodge.  The children loved being "brave" and crossing it regularly.

Getting cozy by the fire.

Silly boy.

Augusta

We recently went camping in northern Maine and on the way decided to stop in Augusta for fun.  The children enjoyed visiting multiple parks, as well as the hotel (who doesn't love a hotel pool?!?).  :)

We stopped to visit Old Fort Western and here's Will working the lever to get the well water.

There was a lovely path along the river that led down to a fun park that the children really enjoyed.

Hanny and Will enjoying the hotel pool with daddy.

This was the second park that we visited that day.

Hannah kept laying down on the grass, playing "night night".

The boys enjoying their big hotel bed.  Jadon was first under the mistaken impression that this whole bed was his bed...not sure where he thought mommy and daddy were going to sleep if he and Will both got their own bed.  ;)

Here's the silly obligatory travel selfie.  Jadon was pretending to be asleep.
