Curtains, curtains, curtains! :)

Recently my mom and sister came to visit and while they were here my mom helped me make some curtains for our living room and kitchen.  That inspired me so much that shortly after they left I made curtains for my dining room, too.  They have made our house much more homey and more "ours".  We are too lazy to paint, due to the fact that we would have to repaint it again when we leave in 3 years (2.5 now).  Anyhow, thought I'd share a few pics of my most recent creation.  I absolutely love them and daily take satisfaction in how they brighten up and change the feel of each room.  It's the little things, you know?  :)

Living room--Sorry the lighting isn't so great...the flash refused to go off in the house.-Also made new covers for my pillows so they coordinate.
Other side of living room.
Living room curtains...the large area rug in our living room has mainly grayish and black in it.
The kitchen.  Not too exciting, but I like this fabric...I had this in  my fabric stash.
Kitchen pattern.
Dining room.  Again, sorry for the poor lighting.
You can better see the pattern here.

Baby Blocks

I LOVE to knit, and wanted to make a couple of gifts for little ones I know.  For Christmas I knit some felted blocks for our nephew and recently I knit some more for our friends' little boy.  Thought I'd share some pics of my latest creation. They are pretty easy and fun to make.  I have found the love for felting.  Here's the pattern, if anyone is interested: Felted Block Set.  I only made 6 of the smallest pattern for the blocks in the pictures.

Doors

Last month sometime Will discovered that if he twisted the doorknobs long enough he could eventually get them unlatched.  Since then we have had all kinds of fun, including being locked out of both bathrooms and our bedroom.  Here are some pics of Will playing in the coat closet.  He loves to get in there and then "ask" Mommy to dress him in all his winter gear.  On this particular day he wanted to wear the jacket he has on in the picture.  I put it on him, with the hood up, and he wore that for hours.  (sidenote:  we have since gotten door handle blocker thingy's for the important doors)
Hiding in the closet.
Clearly explaining why he needs to be in the closet.
Telling Mommy "bye-bye" as he closes himself into the closet again.

This one has nothing to do with the closet, but I thought it was funny.  He decided to put one of his toy bins on top of his head while wearing his coat backward (Mommy might have helped him with that one, as it did need zipping). :)

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's...SUPER WILL!!

Will got some new shoes today and when we were home he immediately wanted me to put them on him.  He loves them and apparently they also give him the power of flight...
This was a rare catch...I caught him with both feet off the ground.  Running is pretty much Will's standard pace so to get a picture of him with his new shoes I had to start pressing the button on the camera to take the picture and hope for the best.  :)

Children's Discovery Museum

This past Saturday we took Will to the Children's Discovery Museum which is about 25 minutes from us.  We went for a children's music class which was being held there and then visited the museum afterward.  The class was fun for Will, as he LOVES music, dancing, and playing "instruments" and the museum was awesome!  Will loved it and it was perfect for his age.  It's in a big house, with each room designed with a different theme for learning and play.  Pretty great.

Music class (these aren't that great, but give you an idea):

Walking in a circle 2-by-2 singing.
Playing the sticks.

Children's Discovery Museum (aka: our new FAVORITE place):
This room had lots of different shoots and tracks for balls...note the clear tracks near the ceiling.  They went around the walls and formed a pretty fabulous track.  Through the door ahead is the water room.
Will takes after his Daddy here in the ship room.
Working on all the knobs and switches under the ship.  :)
Just workin' on the train.
This was in the jungle room (you might've guessed that, huh?).  This was the first time Will has ever gone up and down a slide by himself.  He did it over and over and over and over again. :)

Will LOVED this place, so we will definitely be going back to work out some of that cabin-fever energy this winter!

Snow Anyone?

I am sure you all have your own snow and if not have heard about the snow here in the NE.  Well, here's a few pictures to show that snow.  I have never in my life seen so much snow accumulation in my life.
Here's Missy on the path in our back yard.  You can see how much of the fence is covered in the snow on the sides.
See the small handle closest to you sticking up from the snow on the side of the swing set?  That's the handle on the slide.  The rest of the slide is completely under the snow.
Here's a wider view of the "sea of snow" in the courtyard between our houses.

Don't worry, Mom...I'll get it!

Lately Will has discovered many new things he can do.  One of these things is get the refrigerator door open.  It takes him a few times and quite a bit of effort, but eventually he can usually get it open.  For this reason and many others we keep a baby gate up to keep him out of the kitchen.  :)
He usually climbs up on the bottom ledge so that he doesn't have to stretch so much to get his drink.  I have a feeling that this is a picture I will be seeing many more times in the future.

Here he is reaping the rewards of his efforts.
